The President’s Advisor on Women’s Rights Harriette Chiggai is advocating for all widows to enroll with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
This initiative, she noted, aims to offer widows and other Kenyans access to essential health services and support to improve their overall well-being.
By registering with SHA, widows can receive important healthcare benefits and assistance tailored to their needs, ensuring they have the resources necessary to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Chiggai’s efforts are crucial in empowering widows and ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve within the community.
“Together, we can work towards building a society where women feel safe, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health and well-being. Let us unite in the fight against GBV and encourage all to register for the SHA health scheme to ensure that they receive the care and support they deserve. Let us continue to raise awareness, promote gender equality, and create a safer and healthier environment for all,” she added.
She was speaking at Gatuti area, Nyeri town after attending Sunday Service.
“I would like to talk about a pressing issue that affects many girl child and boy child – Gender-Based Violence (GBV). GBV is a violation of human rights and a significant concern that can have devastating effects on individuals and communities. It is important for us to recognize that GBV knows no boundaries and can occur in various forms, such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. It is essential that we stand together to combat GBV by creating awareness, educating the public, and supporting survivors,” she noted.
Chiggai also emphasized the critical need for ensuring asset recovery for widows, shedding light on their financial vulnerabilities. One of her initiative is to sensitize windows on how to trace their husbands properties through Unclaimed Financial Assets.
She underscored the importance of equitable access to resources for widows to secure their livelihoods and overcome economic hardships.
Chiggai’s advocacy revolves around empowering widows through fair distribution of assets, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Her words serve as a powerful call to action, urging societies and policymakers to address the systemic challenges widows face in accessing their rightful assets.
Chiggai has been instrumental in formulating policies that advocate for gender equity and has a robust track record of advancing women’s rights in leadership across sectors.
