The Kenya coffee market continues to thrive with this week earning Sh 398 million after the sale of 7,358 bags of coffee.\
The sale reflected low sales compared to the previous weeks of Sh522 million at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE).
Njeneni Estate in Nakuru achieved the highest price of Sh60,635 per bag of grade AA sold by the Alliance Berries Limited.
Kokomo Farm produce brokered by New KPCU achieved Sh57,903.
Alliance Berries led the pack at the auction with delivery of 2,149 bags that were sold for Sh110,197,428, followed by the New KPCU 1,753 bags for Sh103,387,480, KCCE 1,762 bags for Sh90,729,810,, Kirinyaga Slopes 433 bags for Sh26,800,230.
Others were United Eastern 501 bags Sh26,507,442, Minnesota 354 bags for Sh20,068,982,CEBBA 266 bags for Sh14,970,907 and Bungoma 140 bags for Sh7,718,892.
NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u said the low volumes at the auction reflects the end of the coffee harvesting in some of the regions in the coffee-rich Central Kenya region.
“ The coffee auction leadership advises the farmers to work extra hard to produce the quality grades that will attract the market,” she said.
Ms Ndung’u added that in the market 20 participated and bought coffee at the auction where the farmers delivered 475 bags of grade AA.
In the buyers category, Ibero Kenya bought 3,101bags,Louis Dreyfus 1,535 bags, Taylor Winch 782 bags, Kenyacof 574 bags.
