Murang’a County Government has made major stripes through empowering thousands of youth through Murang’a Youth Service (MYS).
The strategy initiated by Governor Irungu Kang’ata the youth have been empowered with majority venturing in self employment after they are given a start- up kitty of Sh15,000.
Presiding the third graduation of more than 700 youths at Kimorori grounds in Kenol, Kang’ata said his administration will continue empowering the youth to ensure they are assisted with skills.
In the MYS programme, the selected youth start with cleaning the markets from three months before they are enrolled in the polytechnics where they acquire the much needed technical skills.
Kang’ata accompanied by his two colleagues Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o( Kisumu) and Mumbi Waiguru( Kirinyaga) said the MYS programme was designed to empower the youth after the county government was barred from employing more staff.
Kang’ata added that he was working to provide skills to thousands of the youth through employment programmes, in efforts to transform the rural areas..

The youth after they graduate they get a one-year tax exemption certificate from the county government.
.” We are working to establish an industrialization centre within the Delmonte land of 1,400 acres, that will provide better employment to the farmers and create thousands of jobs for the youth,” said Kang’ata..
The visiting governors’ said Kang’ata being a first term county chief, has given the veterans a challenge as programmes he has initiated have provided an effective leadership, and transformed the living standards of the residents..
Kisumu Governor was impressed by the Murang’a County Dialysis Truck saying it was a remarkable initiative bringing critical healthcare services closer to the people.

“The programme is worth as the mobile unit ensures patients with kidney-related ailments receive life-saving treatment without the burden of long-distance travel in Gatanga and lower Makuyu region,” said Nyong’o
Waiguru said Kang’ata, a first time governor has touched the heart of the majority in Murang’a, and who has challenged other leaders.

She said she has directed her health department to visit Murang’a health facilities for benchmarking, adding that she had been challenged regularly by her electorates.
Waiguru pleaded with Murang’a County Assembly to share MYS and Health frameworks, to assist in implementing the same.
“As a second time government I felt challenged after Kang’ata stunned me in an opinion poll and made it to visit Murang’a twice a year for the purpose of learning,” said Wairugu.
