Unaitas Sacco is focused on increasing its asset base from Sh23 billion to Sh30 billion in the next three years. The Sacco CEO Mr. Martin Muhoho, additionally indicated that the strategic objective of the 400,000 strong membership organization is to grow the loan book size through aggressive disbursement from the current Kshs. 18Billion to Kshs. 22Billion by the year 2026.
Mr. Muhoho was speaking when the Sacco hosted the Nyeri Governor, H.E. Mutahi Kahiga during the opening of Unaitas Othaya Branch. He stated that the Sacco had done a market survey for the County that returned good opportunities and demand for financial services and products serving the agribusiness sector and business customers.
“The Sacco has been in existence for the past 30 years and seeks to increase member deposits to Kshs. 25Billion up from the present Kshs. 12Billion over the next 3 years adding that the ROI has been consistent” said Muhoho.
The CEO welcomed the Othaya people and within the Nyeri county to support Unaitas by joining the Sacco and pursuing their dreams through the various propositions presented from Unaitas. He indicated that customer engagement remains a key focus so as to ensure that Unaitas develops solutions based on demand from the consumers.
The Sacco Chairman, Mr. Michael Muriithi said that Unaitas Sacco was established 30 years ago by 4,000 tea growers mobilizing their resources and registering Murang’a Tea Sacco after they were discriminated against by some financial institutions since they could not afford to maintain the Kshs. 20,000 account minimum balance.” said Muriithi. These tea farmers, he said, supported and nurtured the Sacco before they opened the common bond to allow members from other sectors of the economy for continued growth, he added.
The Nyeri Governor welcomed Unaitas Sacco to Nyeri County and by extension Othaya. He implored on the local community to consider Unaitas as a financial services provider and embrace their offering. The Governor indicated that the people of Nyeri are aggressive business people and would be ready to embrace solutions that complement the needs of the people.
“The County Government of Nyeri spends Kshs. 4Million to train the cooperative movement leaders annually on effective governance and adherence to the Cooperative regulations. The annual training is designed to ensure the Sacco membership is served by competent leadership well versed with the law, regulations and governance practices,” said Gov. Mutahi.
He disclosed that Nyeri county government has been ranked the best in paying off the pending bills, thus creating a conducive environment for business people trading with the County government, one of the major enablers of business growth in the region.
