Munya efforts yield fruits to reform the tea sector

The reforms instituted by the government in the tea sector have
gained momentum as Murang’a farmers have embraced the change.
In all the nine factories,
a new set of directors have been elected following the introduction of the Tea
Regulations Act of 2020 that was endorsed in the senate and the national assembly.
Kiru Tea factory will hold its elections on April 16, following a
notice issued by the company secretary to comply with the law.
Paul Kagema, a chairman at Gacharage tea factory in
Kigumo was re-elected unopposed as he has been a pro-change director. Others elected
alongside Kagema are Wilfred Gathitu who will serve as the Vice-Chairman of the
factory, Daniel Mwangi, Simon
Maina, James Kimani, and John Kinyuru.
At Ikumbi tea factory, the new directors who were elected by the
farmers a week ago are listed as bona fide officials by the registrar, as the
agency put opposition to discredit the government-backed reforms.
The Registrar in a certificate dated March 3, lists Ronald
Njoroge, Francis Kamau, Elijah Maina, Gerald Ngumba, Peter Mwangi, Kibuna
Onesimus Francis, and Richard Kamami as the officials of the factory.
At Gatunguru factory in Kangema sub-county, the former KNUT
National Vice Chairman Samson Mwangi Kaguma was elected as a director.
Others elected are Reuben Kanyuira, Amos Karuci, Samuel Ndegwa,
and Samuel Kanyi.
At Ngeere factory , those
elected are John Maina Githuku, Julius Mwangi,John Maina Njoka, Karanja
Thiong’o,Daniel Githinji and Maina Kaguru.
