Police in Nanyuki town raided Likii village destroying apparatus used in preparation of chang’aa among other illicit brews.
In an early morning operation, the police combed along the Likii river where they uncovered a brewing den, where they uncovered a fully equipped brewing setup and large quantities of illicit brew.
Operation led by Nanyuki OCS Michael Ndirangu, recovered six 100-litre metallic drums, six jikos, six aluminium sufurias that the brewers used in the preparation of the chang’aa.
Also netted included six metallic basins used as coolants, pointing to an established distillation den.
Laikipia East Police Commander Daniel Kitavi lauded the team for conducting a successful raid that netted 12 plastic drums, each with a capacity of 210 litres, of 2,520 litres of Kangara that was ready for the market.
“Another more than 100 litres of Chang’aa, packed in 20-litre yellow plastic jerricans, was also recovered and destroyed at the scene,” said Mr Kitavi.
John Mwangi, a resident of Nanyuki, celebrated the raid saying many of the men in the locality were zombies following the use of the illicit brews.
“The community should support the police to weed out the criminal elements in their backyards. Likii river banks are the areas where the brewers have relocated following numerous raids in the village,” said Mwangi.
