The Meru government has disbursed Sh423 Million for bursaries for various levels of education in the last three years.
At least 178,651 students have benefited from the kitty across the county through the education fund to access education and realize their potential.
Speaking when he launched funds for the construction of Early Childhood Education ECDEs, Governor Kiraitu Murungi underscored the importance of education saying it was a critical pillar in the county.
He urged locals to embrace it saying it was only through education that poverty could be effectively addressed as it was the best tool in creating equity.
During the event on Friday he disbursed Sh213million for Retention Enhancement Fund and construction of ECDE classrooms and workshops for our Vocational Training Centres.
The retention fund will be used in January next year once schools re-open following coronavirus pandemic.
He disclosed his administration will construct 238 ECDEs classrooms by the end of the year across various wards.
The county boss stated the cost of construction of ECDE classrooms has gone down from Sh1.2 million to Sh750, 000 since he took over.
“I have today disbursed monies for the Retention Enhancement Fund worth Ksh 141.5 million and projects money for the construction of our ECDE classrooms and workshops for our Vocational Training Centres worth Sh71.6 million.
The retention fund will be used in January once schools re-open. We are preparing ourselves for successful re-opening.

The facilities will equip the local youth with technical and vocational training.
Governor Murungi said ECDE sub-sector has recorded massive positive results since it is being managed by the county governments.
He lauded the department of education for prudent use of resources which the Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu said attained the highest absorption rate of its budget in the last fiscal years.
