President Ruto donates Sh1 million to the family of Boniface Mwangi Kariuki  to assist in burial preparations

Residents in Githunguri village in Kangema, Murang’a joined the family of the late Boniface Mwangi Kariuki to assist in the burial preparation.

The burial of the deceased was set for July 11, as the community demanded the family of Jonah Kariuki be compensated  for the brutality expressed on their only son by the rogue police.

The residents overjoyed as President William Ruto, through Murang’a MP Betty Maina donated a million shillings to support  in the burial rearrangements. 

The family  through Abel Kinyanjui, uncle to the deceased demanded murder charges be preferred against the policeman responsible in the murder of  Mwangi which occured when he was hawking masks in the Central Business District (CBD).

Also Present was Administrative Secretary in the Office of the President Mr Thomas Saka who represented Principal Secretary Mr Raymond Omollo.

 The host MP Peter Kihungi, Ms Maina and their Maragua counterpart Mary Wamaua eulogised the family, saying they will not abandon them in the quest for justice.

They said the deceased was in his business routine, as others took to the streets but met the roque policemen.

Maina, when presenting the President’s donation to the family, warned the youth against playing around with armed police officers.

“ To ensure the police do their work  to protect the residents, it is high time for the government to plan for a refresher course  to avoid the repeat of the excessive use of powers,” said Maina..

Kihungi said the family needs to be supported with an empowerment programme to fill in the gap left behind by the deceased who was a breadwinner.

The Kangema MP said it was crucial  to join hands and ensure the family was assisted with money  for the interest to educate the three sisters.

“We appreciate that the government  waived the hospital bill of Sh800,000 and we are not focused on giving our brother a decent sendoff,” said Kihungi.

Maragua MP said the incident behind the death of Mwangi is regrettable as the police who pulled the trigger should have been reinstated.

The police, she said, are blamed for the deaths of Albert Ojwang and Boniface as could have been avoided if they were responsible.

Rev Mercy Wangu of Kiawaregi ACK Church mourned the deceased as a person who was supportive to the family and had dreams of building a house for his parents and the neibourbours when they visited Nairobi.

“It’s time the police forged a relationship with the youth,  and while those in authority listen to avoid the repeat of chaos,” she said.

Beatrice Wairimu, a relative, said the deceased had a dream to accomplish, as he had promised to build a house for his parents.

“ Whenever he was in the village he socialised with all,” she said.
