The university has been around for 26 years since it was founded as a nursing college, and has become among the most respected in the country, owing to the training of professional health workers.
\Now Nyeri has Karatina, Deden Kimathi, and Agha Khan Universities alongside the Outspan Global University (OGU).
Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said issuance of a Letter of Interim Authority from the commission paves the way for a new era of academic excellence and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in higher education.
“I urge the youth to be positive in all their undertaking and at the end they will be entrepreneurs who will inspire others,” said Mutahi.

CUE CEO Prof Mike Kuria presented the letter to the university leadership, saying the University cooperated with his team during the inspection.
“ Focus on providing quality leadership and confirm that during the inspection, we ensure all is well before the admission of the learners,” said Kuria.
The CUE, he said, will be visiting the varsity without notice to check on the compliance, as breach of the condition would lead to the revocation.
The University Sponsor Chairman Dr Godffery Macharia Kiruhi, said the letter of interim authority has fulfilled a dream nurtured by a few people.
Sixteen years ago, Dr. Kiruhi said that the medical college was founded, and now we have outspan branches in Nyeri, Embu, and Nanyuki, and finally, a university has been established.
“The journey started with a modest outpatient clinic at Outspan Clinic, we now have branches in Embu and Nanyuki,’ said Kiruhi.
