Nyeri: Mission to revive coffe

 

Coffee farmers in Mt Kenya region
will receive farm inputs worth Sh 20 Million in an initiative to mitigate
against the economic Impact of Covid 19 on the sector.


Coffee Management Services (CMS) Managing
Director, Kamau Kuria said the company would distribute the agro inputs to
farmers through their cooperative societies.


“We know that Covid 19 pandemic has
threatened the Coffee sector especially coffee farmers food security and
therefore we are partnering with one of our German partners DEG, to donate farm
inputs to 10,900 farmers,” Kuria stated.


The firm Director explained the
inputs would benefit farmers in Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu and Muranga counties,
and would be also include food donations for 6500 farmers.

“As an organisation we intend to
support 6500 farmers with each family receiving a food package valued at Sh 1,000
for each package,” Kuria said.

Speaking while making a donation to
the Catholic Church Covid 19 relief response initiative Hope 4 You, Kuria noted
the organisation had made donations to the initiative to support 1500 families.

Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria,
received the donation and asked more private firms to support the initiative to
help families reeling from food insecurity due to covid 19.

“So far we have distributed
assistance to 6,800 families, and donated food worth Sh 16Million. The
initiative has received food donations worth Sh 32Million with hopes to reach
out to at least 15,000 more families,” Muheria said.
