Residents of Nanyuki engaged the police in running battles over the establishment of the American Government backed Ebola Quarantine Facility at the Laikipia Airbase.
Bonfires were lit by the protestors who barricaded the major roads as the police helped to put off the fires and cleared the huge boulders from the roads.
Leaders led by Mutahi Kimaru, a former Laikipia East MP said the government had allowed the establishment of the quarantine facility that will instead accelerate the spread of the disease.

“Nanyuki has a population of more than 50,000 people thus establishing a centre will be putting the entire country at risk of spread of Ebola,” said Mutahi.
He added that outside the Laikipia Airbase, there is a primary and secondary schools with thousands of the learners, who will be at risk of the disease
The residents skipped attending the Madaraka Day celebration instead opted for the demonstration .
At the military installation, the protestors were blocked from proceeding with their mission as they were asked to remain peacefully.
They were asked to submit a written petition concerning their outcry.

“We are brothers and sisters, just do a petition that will be submitted to our seniors in Nairobi,” said a senior military officer.
The youth led by Wangai Mwangi and Marlin Ndegwa said that wananchi are not satisfied as they are aware that the work at the facility was in progress, warning that presence of the Ebola Quarantine facility will force sabotage the businesses in Nanyuki town.
