Family in agony as search for missing Kenya Forest Service Legal Manager enters fifth day

A family in Juja, Kiambu County, is appealing for public assistance to help trace their kin who
mysteriously disappeared five days ago, leaving relatives gripped by anxiety and uncertainty
over her whereabouts.
Esther Wairimu Keige, who serves as the Manager, Legal Services at the Kenya Forest Service
(KFS), was last seen in Juja Town on the day she vanished under circumstances that have
continued to puzzle both her family and those assisting in the search.
According to her elder sister, Margaret Wanja, Esther had travelled was last seen at a restaurant
in Juja where she had gone to enquire about enrolling in the facility’s gym. She was reportedly in
the company of a woman who had picked her up from her place of work and driven her to Juja.
Wanja explained that upon arriving in town, the driver remained behind at a nearby petrol station
while Esther proceeded alone to the restaurant for the inquiries.

“After some time, the lady who had accompanied her became concerned because Esther was
taking longer than expected. She called her and Esther responded that she was winding up and
would be joining her shortly,” said Wanja.
However, when Esther failed to return, another call was made to her phone only to find that it
had been switched off. Since then, all attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful.
The disappearance has triggered an extensive search involving family members, friends and
well-wishers. The family has circulated Esther’s photographs widely on social media, conducted
physical searches in various locations and followed numerous leads, but none has yielded any
breakthrough.

The family says the ordeal has been particularly distressing because Esther was undergoing
treatment for a mental health condition, making her especially vulnerable. Despite her condition,
Wanja noted that Esther remained active in her professional responsibilities and continued to
perform her duties normally.
“We are deeply worried, we have searched everywhere we can think of and pursued every lead
that has come our way, but we still have no clue where she could be,” Wanja said, adding that
the family’s life has been brought to a standstill since Esther’s disappearance.
“Since our sister disappeared, we have not been able to carry on with our normal routines. Every
day we move from place to place hoping to find her or receive information that could lead us to
her. We are appealing to everyone to help us trace her and bring her home safely.”
Esther is described as having a dark chocolate complexion. She was last seen around the Senate
Hotel area in Juja Town wearing a black dress and black shoes.

As the search continues, the family is making an emotional appeal to members of the public,
business operators, motorists, residents and anyone who may have seen Esther or interacted with
her on the day she disappeared to come forward with any information through the nearest police
station or mobile phones 0722791139 or 0719483323.
