United Opposition Principal Martha Karua is opposed to attempts to turn Kenya into a one-party state, citing that political parties enjoy constitutional rights.
The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader spoke when she opened party offices in Mathioya and Kangema constituencies, vowing she will not dissolve her party.
She insisted she will contest the 2027 presidential election on a PLP ticket while she will continue popularising the party’s agenda nationwide.
Karua criticized a section of leaders who have perfected zoning in parts of the country for specific political parties, saying such behaviour undermines Kenya’s democratic principles and multiparty system.
Other leaders in the United Opposition are Rigathi Gachagua, Dr Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Chief Justice David Maraga
Party’s Deputy Party Leader Prof. Peter Kagwanja said Karua remains a suitable candidate to fly the United Opposition presidential flag in the 2027 General Election.
Karua, he said, has the backing of the Kenyans owing to her passion to demand transparent government and ensure value for money.
“ I plead with Kenyans to support her bid due to her integrity, accountability and commitment to prioritize the interests of citizens above personal gain,” he said.
