Coffee market fetch Sh 872 million

Coffee market was lively  as 15 buyers bought 17,293 bags of coffee for Sh 872.7 million.

At the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) the price offered was better compared to last week’s Sh637.1 million.

In the NCE report,  Gicherori, and Gititu factories coffee sold by the Alliance Berries Limited achieved the highest price of Sh54,519.50 per bag of grade AA.

The report explains that in the auction the coffee brokers presented 12,578 bags of grade AA and AB that attracted the buyers at the auction.

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u said the coffee buyers delivered more bags of the quality grades of AA and AB compared to the previous auction of 7,800 bags.

“It is encouraging that 73 percent of the produce in the market was in grade AA and AB,” said Ms Ndung’u.

“ The leadership of NCE appreciates the farmers for the continued production of the quality coffee to the auction,” said Ms Ndung’u.

The 10 brokers led by Alliance Berries Limited presented 6,767 bags that traded at Sh 358. 9 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 2,032 bags that were bought at Sh103. 6 million, CEBBA 522 bags for Sh25,335,455.

Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said the auction was impressive compared to the previous.

“ I encourage our farmers in the counties to continue presenting quality coffee sought by the buyers, thus better price,” said Munyoro, also a member of the coffee and tea parliamentary group. 

Others are Kipkelion 1,384 bags that were bought for Sh 65 million,Minnesota 1,742 bags for Sh 87.9 million among others.
