Former CS Moses Kuria calls on sincere unity in the Mountain

The Mountain Journal

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has castigated Mt Kenya leadership over pursuing the dark lines instead of focusing on the development agenda.

Kuria said the leadership in the region was concerned with undermining others politically while other communities have embraced supporting one of their own.

‘“It’s pathetic that we have a tendency of fighting everybody instead of supporting them,” said Kuria.

The region is the home to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who had been perceived by rival camps until last week when President William Ruto conducted a tour of Embu, Murang’a  and Kirinyaga.

Apart from the development tour of the mountain, Ruto held a meeting with MPs from the mountain on Saturday morning where issues related to impreaching Gachagua were ordered to be stopped.

He singled out leadership in the locality of undermining the upcoming politicians instead of mentoring them as other communities.

“ I worked very well with women representatives Betty Main and Jane Kagiri and when there are issues when engaged behind the scenes,” he said.

In a Kiririmbi Talk show on Inooro TV on Sunday night, Kuria reminded the ;leaders that they are duty bound  to speak in unity on development programmes that once completed will add value to the region.

“ Right now we need to  form a unity caucus on roads, water among other programmes. We have the stalled Mau Mau road, Nanyuki Rumuruti and Pesi dam in Nyandarua that should be done to supply enough water to parts of Kiambu county,” said Kuria.

He regretted that Mt Kenya in future elections will be left an island as it has 4.7 million voters as compared to other communities having 9.5 million registered voters.

The Deputy President asked the leaders to tame their utterance and instead champion development interest.

Gachagua said the leaders should work for the interest of the community and avoid misleading their constituents.

“It is high time the MPs do their part to concentrate and focus  on their development agenda,” Gachagua said when he accompanied Ruto while on a tour of Mt Kenya region.
