A conflict is looming between Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company ( Muswasco) and MCAs’ over the perennial water shortage in their areas.

Kahumbu MCA Chefman Njoroge hit at the water service provider accusing it of laxity in the distribution of the commodity in the wards saying Kahumbu and Muthithi have been receiving the commodity three times in a month.

Chefman said the rationing programme was punitive to the residents forcing them to spend more hours in search of the commodity instead of being involved in wealth creation.

“ We have issued a month’s notice to the firm demanding daily supply of water failure to which a petition will be instituted before the county assembly seeking for punitive action,” said Chefman.

He spoke during the disbursement of Sh 2 million bursary to needy students in Muthithi ward in a ceremony attended by CECs’ Eng Mary Magochi(Water and Environment) and Noah Gachucha (Youth Affairs).

He added that upon the expiry of the notice, the residents will stop their employees from reading and disconnecting water in the Kahumbu and Muthithi wards.

Muswasco Managing Director Mary Nyaga said the wards receive water once per week due to the rationing programme.

“ We are doing everything possible to reduce the rationing days through increasing production of water through expanding of intakes,” said Nyaga.

Muswasco is also facing stiff opposition in the Maragua constituency, where MP Mary Wamaua is seeking it be removed and replaced as if has failed to perfect its services.

by Muwasco owing to the effectiveness in the water distribution.

Eutychus Ngechu, a resident of Ikumbi said  Muswasco services were not reliable, reason the leadership in Kigumo wants to have their service provider.

“ We demand the formation of another company to serve Kigumo as Muswasco has failed to deliver,” said Ngechu.

Some parts in Kahumbu ward, he said, last had piped water in 2018, after the connections were facilitated by the former MP Jamleck Kamau in 2012.

“ Areas in the villages of Kahariro, Gathimaini, Githembe,Ndonga had piped water way back in  2018 with the locals fetching water from the boreholes and other polluted sources,” said Ngechu.

Muswasco is also at war in Maragua with the local MP Mary Wamaua demanding its disbandment on claims it has failed to connect the locals in various parts.

“ Maragua is badly hit with shortage of water as only 20 percent of the population has access to piped water,” said Wamaua.
