New dawn in the tea sector

 Directors finally take
control of tea factories

 By The Mountain Journal Crew

A new chapter has been opened in the tea
sector as directors elected three months ago have started holding strategic
meetings in their factories jointly with KTDA officials.

Despite tough resistance, the senior employees
of the agency embraced the meetings convened by the directors they had earlier
ignored as outsiders in the tea processing and marketing docket.

At Ikumbi tea factory, in
Murang’a, the directors met where they charted the way into making arrangements
on how the mini bonus will be paid this month, to support the livelihood of the
small-scale growers.

In the meeting, accounting to
director  Jerald Ngumba there were  senior managers which were described cordial.

 Issues on
nine months accounts  and factory
operations  were part of the agenda,”
said Ngumba.

It is the first time the
defiant directors attended the meeting after the new agency management chaired
by David Muni sent six officials led by Lerionka Tiampati on a three months
compulsory leave pending forensic investigations into their operations.

 Two weeks ago, Murang’a
County directors and the factory managers met in a joint meeting that was
chaired by Irungu Nyakera who convened the Tea Pricing Task Force Committee
investigating concentrating on how to bring the cost of production down for the interest of
the growers.
