Freedom fighter Karatu Thuku was
celebrated on Jamhuri day in Kandara.
The celebrated war veteran was hosted by
Wakili Mbiyu Kamau, where he narrated his story to the residents at Destiny
Hotel in Kandara.
He also displayed his passport as he
demonstrated the fighting skills, which the Mau Mau veterans used to defeat the
British soldiers.
Karatu was among the veterans attached to the
late Bildad Kaggia.

and suffering the freedom fighters went
through.

Wakili Mbiyu said the freedom fighter is a
symbol of unity in Kandara as he is consulted regularly by leaders when need
arise.
“He
is a man of wisdom who has a rich history of the country, and a supporter of
the efforts made by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Leader Raila Odinga to
unite the country,” said Mbiyu.

The war veteran appreciated
construction of Mau Mau road by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in
their recognition.
