Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has
blamed on the senate for failing to put the interests of the Kenyans at heart thus
the delay to deliberate on how the revenue allocation to counties will be
shared.
The Governor said the senate has abandoned its
role in protecting devolution and instead of playing divisive politics, which have
exposed employees in the devolved units to challenges.
Speaking in Murang’a, he said the
council of governors has suffered
enough owing to the strategic delay by the senate to block disbursement of resources to
counties.
“The county government workers have
gone for three months without getting their salaries due to problems arising in
senate. The hospitals have no drugs as the suppliers have also not been paid,”
he said.
The senate has been delaying to deliberate of
the debate on Third Generation Revenue Allocation Formulae since
February, when the subject was brought before the members.

“The senators have been getting
their salaries and allowances when service deliveries in the counties have been
affected due to lack of resources,” said the governor.
The COG later asked the employees in the non-essential
departments to proceed on 14 days leave.
