SECONDARY schools are
in a state of confusion following contradictions on when payment to BOM
teachers will be effected.
In the confusion
hundreds of BOM teachers have been camping at principals’ offices awaiting for
their payment, after Education Administrative Secretary Zack Kinuthia gave
assurance that payment will be effected.
As the contradiction
continues, the principals are seeking for questions from Ministry of Education following
the emerging threats from 70,000 BOM teachers.
Chairman of Secondary
School Heads Association Kahi Indimuli when reached for comments accused the government of inaccurate
information related to payment.
Kahi said the promises
to teachers have created anxiety in the past leading to bad blood between them
and principals.
“Report from schools indicates
the teachers have expressed mistrust with their heads following the unexplained
delay in remittance of funds, to pay them,” said Mr Kahi
The national chairman called
on the government should come clean on the disbursement of funds to the
schools.
He refuted claims that
the schools had given ministry the teachers’ bank accounts.
“We only supplied gave
the government names of the teachers, now where we communicated about their
bank accounts as alleged,” he said.
The delay has forced several of the teachers to return to the villages to search for opportunities as Covid 19 led to closure of schools.
Murang’a MP Sabina Chege
accused Education CS Prof George Magoha for withholding teachers’ facilitation a month after the cabinet approved the payment, to assist in the mitigation
against Covid 19.
“Magoha should explain
the reasons behind the delay to release the funding to schools to effect teachers
payment,” said Chege.
The MPs, she said are
approached by the teachers countrywide seeking
to know the fate of their money.
“The teachers are
suffering in the villages yet their kitty was approved by the cabinet long
ago,” said Chege.
