Murang’a County Government will buy 100 ICU beds from young Kenyans innovators.
The deal was sealed by County
Health and Sanitation Executive Joseph Mbai, after the innovators obtained certification from Kenya Bureau of Standard.
The group led by
Mungai Gathogo eyes to start mass production
of locally manufactured Intensive Care Unit beds next week.
The group got a government of Sh32 million to
make 500 specialized hospital beds , through intervention of President Uhuru
Kenyatta.
The innovators’ Mungai,
Eng Paul Wanguraro, and Joseph Kamau obtained certification from Kenya Bureau
of Standard to embark on a government contract to manufacture 500 ICU beds.
“ We have recruited
hundreds of the youth to benefit from
training when they assist to meet the national government contract of
500 beds,” Mungai said.
They have given themselves a target to make
the beds within 45 days.
In Murang’a, the county government will
partner with the innovators to train
youth with interest in wielding on
making of hospital beds.
