Murang’a county government has launched use ofmotorcycles in the transportation of specimens
from patients to laboratories for the provision of quality treatment.
In the past it took more than 10 days for a
patient to receive treatment after the specimens took long before being
analyzed by experts.
County Health and Sanitation Executive Joseph
Mbai said in the new set up it will require a day for the patients to receive results and get treatment.
Speaking at Murang’a Level Five Hospital, he
said community health workers have been trained to transport the specimens
from the rural areas to established laboratory facilities.
“The
county government has invested millions of shillings to enable the residents to get the best medical attention,” said Mbai.
He also expressed displeasure over increased
teenage pregnancies in the locality, calling
for a debate if sex education should be introduced in the schools.
“
We are also concerned with the number of teenagers
who are HIV positive. Murang’a
accounts for 16,000 HIV positive persons out of which majority are youth,” he
said.
