Residents in Nginyii village in Umande Ward in
Laikipia county recount their experience with spending nights in the cold
chasing elephants out of the homes.
Last night the residents remained in the cold throughout
the night preventing the jumbos’ from straying into their farms.
They sent distress calls that were ignored by
the authorities and including Kenya Wildlife Service rangers on claims they did not a vehicle to take them to Nginyii
village for a mission.
Peter Kamau calls on Governor Ndiritu Muriithi to come to their rescue and alleviate their suffering.
” Nginyii has been an isolated village where there is no a single electric pole, and the locals are dedicated farmers,” said Kamau.
On
the social media platforms, the residents raised concerns seeking help to save
them from the elephant invasion into their farms where they have mature crops
ready for harvesting.
Nginyii
despite being one of the marginalized villages in Laikipia county has a vibrant
irrigation programme and employs tens of youths on a daily basis.
