Sacco declare profits owing to digital transformation, as others went under

A Sacco
 has been credited among a few that made
impact to members through migration to digital platforms  during the period of Covid 19  pandemic.

Amica
Savings and Credit Limited   during the
period introduced attractive digital platforms that reached its hundreds of customers
affected by movement restrictions imposed by the government to curb the spread of
the disease.

Sacco
Chief Executive Officer James Mbui said following the use of the IT they made a
surplus leading to declaring of Sh170 million dividends to the members.

 The first three months of between March and
May, he said  it was tough for the organization,
before it embarked on promoting digital platforms  like mobile money transfer system, Visa Card
and agents.

Mbui
said the management was forced to improvise best ways possible, remain in
business and ensure full adherence to Government directives of measures to stop
the spread of the disease.

“In
the year despite myriad economic challenges, the organisation saved a lot as
operation costs among others were reduced.

The
loan disbursement to the customers in the year stood at Sh3.1 billion up from
Sh2.3 billion of the last financial year 2018/2019,” said Mbui flanked by Sacco
Chairman Hezron Maina.

Interests
from subsidiary investments grew by Sh2 million from Sh122 million, said Maina.

In
the year under review, Sacco’s share capital grew to Sh533 million from Sh462
million reflecting 15.4 percent growth, as the asset base grew by 19 percent
from Sh3.02 billion to Sh3.5 billion.

County
Cooperative Commissioner Ms Josphine Mwangi lauded the efforts made by the
management on the transformation saying since 2015 they have attracted many
customers.

She
said the sacco has been working with the department of cooperative to ensure
the policies imposed to guard members savings and deposits are followed.

“Rebranding
of the institution from Murata Sacco to Amica Savings and Credit Sacco is a
milestone that has brought business persons on board,” she said.

The
cooperative societies have been the strongest pillar that has supported dairy
and women cooperatives in Murang’a County.
