Laikipia county interdicts five in clean up mission in health department

Bitter residents want stocking of drugs among other essentials in health facilities

After the
deaths of two patients at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, the county
government of Laikipia has owned up to the mess.

County Executive
Member of Health Ms Rose Maitai issued a statement concerning the incidents
that led to the deaths of Halima Hassan and Jane Njoki at th
e facility indicating action has been taken.

The action
was taken after the locals through social media platforms castigated the
management of the hospital over allowing a birthday party to be held within the facility that serves more than 750 patients on a day.

Her
statement detailed the interdiction of Phydelis Wachie Nabwoba and Clement Wambugu
Kimani, a senior medical laboratory officer and laboratory technologists
respectively in connection with the death of Halima on May 31.

“We have
written to DCI to conduct investigations of any criminal liability for further
action on the two for a possible legal action,” said Maitai in a letter dated June 3.

 Others interdicted over unbecoming behaviour
in the medical pratcise are Peter Fredrick Mwenda named a serial absentee from
work and Michael Makau and Mwangi Muturi.

Following the
incidents at the facility, community leader Mwangi wa Sammy condemned Maitai
over the negligence demonstrated at the facility.

“It is a sad day
for Maitai and Governor Ndiritu Muriithi admits negligence that led to a patient’s
death as nurses and doctors enjoyed a birthday next door, “said Wa Sammy in a
statement to The Mountain Journal Newsdesk.
