Management of secondary schools have raised the need for the
expanded infrastructure to accommodate students in accordance to Covid 19
protocols.
Murang’a secondary school heads said it will be an exercise
in futility if the government order re-opening of the institution without the
additional infrastructure.
Murang’a leaders led by Education Chief Administrative Secretary Zack Kinuthia during an education stakeholder meeting at Murang’a High School.

stakeholders forum said the schools following the outbreak of the
disease will be faced with accommodation
challenges thus need for resources for
construction.
They spoke during an education meeting which was also
attended by Ministry of Education Administrative Secretary Mr Zack Kinuthia and
Central Regional Director of Education Ms Margaret Lesuuda.

Led by Murang’a High
School Principal Mr Willy Kuria, the heads cited that large schools like
Mugoiri Girls High School was among those that can only be occupied by the KCSE
candidates if there will be no expansion.
“Lack of the infrastructure is a major hindrance in the
secondary schools that should be addressed without delay” said Kuria.
Lesuuda said Murang’a due to lack of land, the
administration of schools should consider high rise building as a solution.
“Am pleased that education
stakeholders in Murang’a can come together to chart the way forward. This is a wakeup
call to other counties, as education of
our children is a concern,” she said.
Kinuthia said the government will support
construction of additional infrastructure in learning institutions to encourage
100 percent transition at all levels.
“In the last financial
year 55 secondary school received Sh555 million
for infrastructure programme,” said the administrative secretary.
