Five villages in Gatang’a, Murang’a had unfamiliar guests who concentrated
in searching for illicit brews.
In the villages of Kinyangi, Nginyi, Rubiro and Mac Fast situated
the banks of Chania and Thika River, the police arrested five notorious brewers.
In the operation coordinated
by Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua and Gatanga Deputy County
Commissioner David Rotich intercepted more than 1,200 liters of illicit brews.
Several brewers fled from their homes after the police raided
the villages.
In the operation, the law enforcers destroyed brewing equipment.
Rotich said during the
operation in the Kakuzi/ Mitumbiri division in lower Gatanga, saw the locals guiding the law enforcers to illicit
dens.
The security team divided into six units was guided by drones
controlled by Nacada expert conducted the operation a week after Central
Regional Coordinator Wilfred Nyangw’anga lauded the efforts made to eradicate
illicit liquor.
“The security team appreciated gesture made by the
community that helped git into areas not captured by the drones,”
said Rotich.
Operation to clear banks
of Chania River was started in 2018 by former Murang’a County Commissioner John
Elungata (now Coastal Regional Coordinator) who commissioned blasting of illicit
brews dens.
The blasting of the
hideouts followed a tour by Elungata and the security committee after he found
hundreds of youth being addicts.
