The month-long strike by the Murang’a ECDE 1,100 teachers came to an end after their union and the local county government entered a truce.
There was celebration among the teachers after the care giver was dropped and replaced with teachers.
Immediately the strike was called off and the return to work formulae signed,the teachers showed willingness to sign the four year contract, before the end of 48 hours they had agreed.
In the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the county government workers unions that represented the teachers and Murang’a Deputy Governor Stephen Munania the intern teachers had their salaries increased from Sh 10,000 per month to Sh 27,000.
The teachers’ with degrees will earn Sh 27,000 up from Sh 17,000, diploma holders Sh 23,000 from Sh 17,000, with the certificates teachers get Sh 21,000 from Sh 17,000 per month.
“I am delighted that I presided over the signing of an agreement formalising the pay increase deal between ECDE teachers and the Murang’a county government. The agreement was signed by both the Union,” said Munania.
The teachers celebrated the signing of the MOU saying it will allow them to enjoy the increment recommended for the implementation by the Salaries Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Present in the meeting included County Government Workers Union officials led by Secretary General Kelvin Owango, and the Murang’a Branch Chairperson Julius Kamugi, and the Secretary County Public Service Board Kimani Gathura among others.
At the same time, the County government disbursed Sh520,000 to 52 families who were affected by landslides where their land and properties were destroyed.
The victims appreciated the support of the county government after they were vetted by their chiefs and the Kenya Red Cross and found they were needy,
Munania said they are guided by the emergency fund to assist the victims of natural calamities and other unforeseen incidents to recover.
“The County Government found it prudent to give a small token to the victims of landslides to assist them to get restarted, after the majority lost their properties from the midnight incident,” said Munania, who represented Governor Irungu Kang’ata.
