The Nairobi coffee market earned Sh 887.3 million after the auction of 13,786 bags of coffee at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE).
The earning was more than Sh447.7 million last week after the auction of 7,147 bags.
The NCE report indicates that 4,528 bags of grade AA were offered, 4,735 bags and 1,288 bags of grade C that fetched a total of Sh 715.6 million.
The report outlined that the Kii factory in Kirinyaga achieved the highest price of Sh 67,597 for each of the 33 bags of grade AA.
Nyeri based Karogoto achieved the second highest price of Sh66,693 for each of 67 bags,followed by Kirinyaga based Gakuyu ini Sh65,917 for Sh 35 bags.
NCE CEO Lisper Ndungâu in her report stated, Alliance Berries Limited 3,436bags Sh 232.2 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 1,196 bags for Sh 73.1 million, New KPCU 3,026 bags for Sh 188.1 million, Kipkelion 1,391 bags for Sh 90.2 million among others.
She added that in the provision of grade AA at the auction , Alliance Berries offered 1,412 bags, New KPCU 820 bags, Kipkelion 482 bags, Kirinyaga Slopes 289 bags, Murangâa 267 bags, United Eastern 303 bags among others.
â The number of bags offered for auction on Tuesday is higher than that of last week, an indication there is more coffee in the farmers stores and warehouses,â said Ms Ndungâu adding that 10 coffee brokers participated in the auction..
In the auction 16 buyers participated, where C.Dormans 3,319 bags, Kenyacof 2,989 bags, Louis Dreyfus 2,327 bags, Ibero Kenya 1,960 bags, Taylor Winch 1,360 bags among others.
Coffee farmer Joseph Kamande says Kenya farmers should take advantage of the reduced coffee production in Mexico and Brazil following adverse weather conditions.
âThe local farmers are encouraged to sell their coffee through the auction and direct sale platforms before the situation improves in South Americasâ farms,â said Kamande
