Investors trooped to Thika Green Resort for deliberations on how to make Murang’a great through investment within 800 acres of land, within the Delmonte land.
The conference brought together more than 1,500 investors, majority from Kenya, others from German, China, Britain all eying for a piece of land for establishment of agro processing industries among other utilities.

President William Ruto officially opened the conference, lauded the county governments for being a pillar behind the development in the country, through creating condusive environment for business.
Ruto said the establishment of agro processing linkages and markets as a development agenda that will led to the generation of increased income and create wealth across the country saying it was not time to play politics.

“ The government will facilitate engagement with the investors in the local and international conferences to support end to end value income, in a strategy to unlock the market,” he said.
He added that there are six special economic zones, among them Murang’a which has been allocated 500 acres of land by the Murang’a County Government under the leadership of Governor Irungu Kang’ata,
“ The special economic zones of Murang’a Nakuru, Eldoret, Sagana and Busia will support end-to-end value chain ecosystems with the aim to raise local incomes, create employment for our youth,’ he said as he lauded Murang’a County Assembly for the allocating land for specific purpose.
Murang’a leadership is driven with a compelling vision, and strategic foresight in the planning of the investment conference.

“ Already there is a Chinese Investor looking for 400 acres of land in the industrial park for the establishment of industries,” said Ruto.
He emphasised that on the investment to thrive, the county governments must provide a stable, predictable, and business-friendly environment to improve infrastructure, streamline regulations, foster innovation, and lower the cost of doing business.
For the economy to thrive there is a need for robust cooperation between the national and county governments to lower the cost of doing business, added the head of state.

He added that Murang’a offers significant opportunities in agriculture, housing, and infrastructure development, and at the economic zones a pharmaceutical hub will be built to stop the government from spending Sh150 billion annually on the pharmaceutical supply.
“Murang’a leadership has a compelling vision, and strategic foresight in the planning of the investment conference, as there is a Chinese investor who will invest in 400 acres of land in the industrial park,” said Ruto.
On his part, Kang’ata said the industrial park measuring 1,300 acres will generate revenue, employment and create backward linkages, thus assisting in generating revenue to develop the 35 wards, among other needs. .

“ We request the support of the national government to provide water, build roads within the industrial park to give the industrialists a conducive environment,” said Kang’ata.
Other areas of partnership are Mitumbiri sanitary landfill, Murang’a county creameries, Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga cultural site, and Mariira agriculture training centre.
“We request the Ministry of land and National Land Commission fast track tittling,” said the Governor.
Also Ruto drummed support from the Affordable Housing programme saying providing residents with shelter would not interfere with agriculture land under tea, coffee, macadamia avocado, thus a need to look for alternative settlement.
“The land for commercial farms should not be disrupted with shelter as we are interested in agriculture progress and food security, “ he said.
“The government was working on 400 modern markets across the country fitted with cold rooms, to limit post harvest loss,” said the president. Ends
Lauded governor Irungu kang’ata for setting up enough land for a special economic zone on 500 acres, and another 800 acres for establishing industries.
“ The Ministry of Trade and Investment will work toward establishment of a manufacturing zone in Murang’a,” he said, adding that the government will strengthen infrastructure to spur industrial development.
On the employment challenge, said primary value addition will reduce the unemployment level through the consideration.
He disclosed that China imports Sh 40 billion goods from Kenya, compared to Sh600 billion worth of goods our people buy from the Chinese market annually.
“We are working on the removal of tariffs from the products from china and latest september there will be an expanded market , a team from the ministry of trade is aware of the bilateral programme with China,” said Ruto

He said 500 acres have since been donated to the special economic zones, as the investors will share 800 acres through leasing from the county government.

In the conference the areas of partnership are Mitumbiri sanitary landfill, , Murang’a county creameries, Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga cultural site,and Mariira agriculture training centre with 100 acres of land in Kigumo ready for occupation.
