Death of Prof Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o has affected many Kenyans who recounted how they encountered him during their early years.
Hundreds of Kenyans took on their social media platforms to celebrate the deceased as a brave person who communicated through literature.
Mlife President Mwangi Mukami says he met the Ngugi in Seattle in US in June 2012 years after he read his book Devil on the Cross, Barrel of a Pen, among others.
In his eulogy, Mwangi describes Ngũgĩ wasn’t just any writer as his words were a mirror in the society.
In the 1990’s, he explains, many leaders in Kenya feared his mind because it eclipsed their vision—for Kenya and for the world.
“His writing was resistant, a revolution of thought,” he mourned the gallant writer in his facebook account.
Dr Kamau Wairuri, a resident of Kangema, says he once met the late Ngugi during the Edinburgh Book Festival.
“Afterwards we met when he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh,” said Kamau.
