British envoy lauds Murang’a development path

The British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan held talks with Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata that centred on strategies to promote development, focusing at value addition of agricultural produce.

The envoy was briefed on the county government strategy to industrialisation focusing on job opportunities ahead of the Murang’a investment conference slated for June 13 and June 14.

 Already, eight investors in the sectors of textile, pharmaceutical and agro processing have declared interest in the industrial park with 500 acres of land.

Kang’ata made a plea to the British Army (Batuk) training in Laikipia county, to establish a hospital in the county’s land for its soldiers.

Areas visited included Kenneth Matiba Hospital, Special Economic Zone/ Economic Processing Zone (EPZ), Mitumbiri Sanitary Landfill, county aggregation facility, and Zabka ECDE centre.

“We have tens of programmes in health, agriculture, youth and education all tailored at supporting the well being of the one million plus population,” said the governor.

Kang’ata asked the envoy  to support the Murang’a Investment Conference slated for June 13 and June 14, through inviting  the British industrialists to attend the conference  for the part of establishing  Murang’a Industrial Park located on 1,400 acres of land that was  ceded by  Delmonte Kenya Limited to the county government in four years ago.

The envoy said he will float an invitation to the British industrialists on the establishment of the industrial park in Murang’a.

“I support the vision on industrialisation,  that in the coming years Africa will be leading in the industries, and Kenya is right at the scope to take the lead,” said Mr Neil.

Others were County Executive Officials led by Deputy Governor Patrick Munania, Agriculture CEC Kimani Mugo among others .
