Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has promised to faight attempts to divide Mt Kenya people along political lines saying the region’s unity is paramount for its long-term development and prosperity.
The DP said the people’s unity in the region dates many years back dismissing efforts by those in the opposition to divide them.
“We have a long history of unity as the people of Mt. Kenya. There is nothing that can divide us. Those who think they can divide us will not succeed. As the Deputy President, I will make sure we remain united and work together as it has always been and will always be,” DP stated.
The Second in Command spoke on Sunday when he attended a thanksgiving service to celebrate Embu ACK Diocese 36th Anniversary at St. Mark’s Kigari Teachers Training College grounds in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County.
The Deputy President also, on behalf of the President, presided over a fundraiser to support ongoing construction of the Diocese’s Business Complex in Embu town.
Prof. Kindiki called on residents not to be deceived into following people who have no interest in the unity of the people urging them not to panic because of the outcome of the recent by-election.
“It was not a presidential election so there is no problem because the voters chose their MP. Elections for President will be done next year and we are ready for it. I want to assure you that we will not be divided. What will matter most is what we have done for the people. The extent of development we have done. It will not be about who can insult more because people don’t care about that,” he affirmed.
Referring to the challenges faced by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Ruto before assuming office in 2013, he said nothing else is more bothersome as it would be easily overcome.
“We have been through tougher times. In 2013, we supported former President Uhuru and then Deputy President Ruto and they won despite facing cases at The Hague. So no one should worry about next year because we have and continue to develop the country making our work easier in the coming elections,” he noted.
Further, the Deputy President underscored the need for the nation’s unity beseeching the church and all citizens to be at the forefront to protect it against those keen to disrupt its peace and harmony.
“We are one country. From the Coast, Central, Western, Eastern, Nyanza, North Eastern, Rift Valley and Nairobi, we are one country and we must protect it. We don’t have any other country. Let us always treasure our homeland,” DP emphasized.
With development projects going on in every part of the country, including in Embu County, the DP said the President deserves another term urging them to back him as they look ahead for more development.
In Embu, modern markets in Embu, Runyenjes, Ishiara and other key towns are nearing completion.
Over 300kms of road projects are also underway, some of them having stalled for years.
Water projects in Mbeere North, Mbeere South and Manyatta constituencies costing over 5 billion shillings are progressing as well as extension of electricity to thousands of homes in the devolved unit. The national government has also allocated one billion shillings for construction of a new Level 5 hospital in Embu town.
“We have a lot to show for our development record. Next year we will showcase what we have done. Our opponents should be ready to do so because they have been in power before,” Prof. Kindiki added.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who, among other leaders. joined the DP for the anniversary service, said the County has witnessed unrivalled development since 2022 promising to continue working closely with the President and his deputy for the benefit of the Embu people.
“I made a personal decision to work with President Ruto and I have no regrets at all for doing so. For four years, we have seen the fruits of this cooperation. We have never seen the kind of development we have witnessed in our county the last four years,” she revealed.
The DP praised the Governor for her firm decision saying it is a wise move that will ensure continuous development in the region.
Meanwhile, Prof. Kindiki told residents not to lose sight of better political prospects that come with backing President Ruto in 2027 saying making a mistake of supporting the opposition risks being out of power for many years to come.
“After President Ruto, we have a greater chance at the Presidency after his retirement. In the other formations the region is not in consideration anytime in the near future and it will take many years, even 200 years, to regain the Presidency,” he noted.
