Small scale holders of tea factories have continued to impress the market through the production of 5.6 million kgs earning Sh1,444,699,440.
The leading factories at the Mombasa Tea Auction that earned the higher rates were ,Mununga earned Sh 44,069,200, followed by Gathuthi Sh25,667,724, Kimunye Sh37,092,044 , Imenti Sh 38,679,930 , Mungania Sh32,468,940 , Kathangariri Sh20,826,992.
Others were Rukuriri Sh 40,859,564 , Kiegoi Sh48,718,450, Gacharage Sh29,906,256.
Report from Tea Brokers East African Limited indicated that Murang’a based Ngere factory sold 189,036 kgs, that earning Sh 56,710,800, Njunu earned Sh18,352,492 after the sale of 62,851kgs. Makomboki tea factory auctioned the highest tea weighing 197,096 kgs
Nduti factory earned Sh17,891,440 from the sale of 63,898kgs, and Gatunguru Sh 26,435,356, after the auction of 94,076kgs
In the west of the rift, Momul tea factory led the pack with 85,874 that earned the growers Sh22,069,618.
The report further divulged that Rorok, Kapsara and Kobel in the market sold the tea through the lowest rates of Sh146, Sh148, and Sh148 respectively per kilogramme.
KTDA zone six Board Member Mr Enos Njeru says the tea sector has continued to grow owing to production of quality green leaf at the farm.
“ The market is interested in the quality tea, thus earning better returns to the farmers,” said Njeru.
Njeru added that he was delighted that Mungania, Kathangariri and Rukuriri factories he represents in the KTDA board are in the top ten list.
The Mombasa auction in the week, sold 8,814,633kgs of tea from Kenya, Uganda 978,060 kgs, Rwanda 749,304 and Burundi 58,164 kgs.

In the buyers category, the report further divulges that Global tea bought the highest of 21,140 kgs, KTDA backed Chai Trading 18,900 kgs, LAB International 14,760 kgs, Mombasa Coffee 11,300 kgs among others.
Firms that bought the lowest tea are Trans-Atlantic, Sam An, and Lula each bought 40 kgs.
