More than 550,000 persons have registered with the affordable houses programme, where only 200,000 are in construction countrywide.
Lands and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome said the demand for the houses was high thus the need for speedy completion of the houses.
The Cabinet Secretary accompanied by the Housing Administrative Secretary Mr Maalim Mohammed spoke in Kabati, Maragua when issued title deeds to members of Kagaa Farmers Cooperative Society under liquidation.
She said the housing programme was supported by the government as another 1,910 units will be constructed on land that Delmonte Kenya Limited ceded to the Muranga county government.
The CS urged Kenyans to ignore those talking ill of the housing programme as in future the units will be in high demand.
“All the leaders should be humble at all times in the accounts of the government projects and shun divisive politics,” said the CS.
At Kagaa farmers cooperative society it was a celebration as the CS issued 283 title deeds to a section of the members who had completed payment.
Wahome slashed the title deed payment from Sh75,000 to Sh30,000 after hundreds of the members said the amount was too high.
“ I have waived some of the payment to ensure all the members access the title deed,” said Wahome.
She further said after the government was cleared in resolving issues at Kagaa, she will concentrate on the troubled Kihiu Mwiri land buying company to clear the mess.
“ Kihiu Mwiri challenges will be resolved as the government wants the members to have their title deeds,” said the CS.
Mr Maalim the administrative secretary, who once served as the Maragwa District Commissioner in 2007 said the government was interested in improving the living standards of the residents through initiating programmes.
“ In the land registries digitalisation systems have been installed in efforts to prevent fraud,” said Maalim a career adminstrator.
Others present were MPs Edward Muriu( Gatanga) and Mary Wamaua( Maragua) and MCAS
