The pressure mounted by tea growers at Githambo tea factory in Murang’a has forced its three directors to tender their resignation.

Led by their chairman Joseph Karanu,  the directors  Stanley  Wagura, and Ms Winnie Njoki bowed to the pressure that started a week ago after the growers expressed their dissatisfaction  with the approved bonus payment of Sh42.

As the three walked away,  the directors left to man the closed factory are Moses Macharia, Joseph Njoroge and Samuel Githu.

The trio resigned as the tea plucking boycott entered the second week as the farmers protested over the approval of Sh42 as they wanted above Sh60.

“ I have resigned  from the leadership of Githambo tea factory  and have notified the 8,000 plus farmers,” said Karanu.

The factory receives in excess of 100,000 kilogramme of green leaf estimated at Sh2.5 million a day. Translating to a loss of Sh17.5 million since the boycott started.
