Members of the county assemblies from Mt Kenya region differed over who to support to assume the role of the spokesman.
In a heated debate that pits the Deputy President Rigathi Gagachua and Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki, a section of MCAs from the counties nearly went physical as they differed.
Kariara MCA Jeremiah Gichobe said the agenda on the regional political pointman should come last as the issues pertaining to the welfare of the MCAs have been forgotten.
In a meeting attended by MCAs from Laikipia,Nyandarua,Nyeri,Murang’a,Kirinyaga, Nakuru, and Isiolo converged in Murang’a for lunch where,UDA MCAs Caucus chairman, Kiruga Thuku said the agenda of the meeting was to ensure they are involved in development agenda taking place in national and county government’s.
Gichobe differed with the rest as he said the they should not be a punching bag when their welfare remains unattended but those allied to the political interests are given much priority.
“Now the issue of our welfare should not be handled by Kindiki as there is a legal framework of how it can be done” said Gichobe.
Thuku said the meeting was attended by the speakers of the county assemblies in Mt.Kenya region where the issue of development was deliberated.

“Now the department of interior is mostly involved in the matters pertaining development and close to the people the smell as the MCAS”.
Supporting Gichobe, Kirinyaga MCA David Mathenge said it was embarrassing that the MCAS had been hoodwinked; they were to have a meeting with their governor Anne Wiaguruto learn they were in a political agenda.
“We were hoodwinked to come thinking that we will.meet with the governor only for us to meet other MCAs from other counties for a political agenda”.
He said Kindiki should know that Kirinyaga leaders have respect for President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua who they have been supporting.
Kirinyaga assembly deputy speaker Jinaro Njamumo said political bickering in Mt.Kenya region due to clear leadership hence being a laughing stock.
He said the political situation is disadvantageous to the region owing to lack of clear leadership.
Isiolo Speaker Mohamed Roba, said the MCAs wish to be involved in development for the interest of their wards.
