Former Governor to serve eight years over corruption

Former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal will serve eight years in prison after he was found guilty of corruption-related charges.

He is the first governor since the introduction of devolution to have been convicted on corruption related charges.

The former county chief was given the option to pay a fine of  Sh85.4 after he was involved in corruption of Sh83.3 million.

Milimani Anti Corruption Court magistrate Mr Thomas Nzyoki said Lenolkulal acted in a conflict of interest after he awarded a tender to his petrol station.

Lenolkulal was sentenced to four years for conflict of interest and another four years for the unlawful acquisition of public property. The former Governor was banned from holding public office for 10 years.

The governor’s ally Mr . Hesbon Ndathi,  was found guilty and ordered to serve four years in jail or a fine of Sh1 million for unlawfully acquiring public property. 

Former County Secretary Stephen Siringa and other county officials were sentenced to four years or pay a Sh700,000 fine each.
