There are considerations to reclassifying the Kaharati-Kangari-Maire road to be handed over to Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro says the road was an important element in the transportation of people and goods across the constituencies in Murang’a county and thus should be handed to KeNHA from Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).
Speaking during Inooro Talk Show, Munyoro said the road connects Kigumo with the constituencies of Kiharu, Kandara, and Gatanga, and due to a lack of resources for maintenance it was in a pathetic state.
“ The road is full of potholes that need to be refilled to ensure there is flow of vehicles delivering goods and commodities to the localities,” said Munyoro.

The MP assured Kigumo electorates that once the road management was taken over by KeNHA, the issue of maintenance would be sorted.
The proposal by the MP comes when road users are complaining over the dilapidated state of the major highway forcing many to use alternative routes among them Nyoka Nyoka and Thika Kangari road.
