Politician cum businessman Jimi Wanjigi will be spend the night at Kamukunji police station in Nairobi, after he presented himself to DCI for recording statement.
Wanjigi, a critic of the Kenya Kwanza government said the police arrested him over claims of illegal possession of firearms.
He will be charged Tuesday after he presented himself for grilling by his defence team after the police issued a summon on him.
The police claimed his arrest followed confirmation from the Firearms Licensing Board that the six rifles found in his house were not licensed.
“The licensing board advised us to take legal action against him over the illegal possession of the firearms and that is why he is being detained,” a senior officer stated.
The officer said the arrest had nothing to do with an earlier probe on the Nane Nane protests.
At around 4.20 pm, Wanjigi posted on his X account saying police were detaining him.
“The DCI has illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same arrest,” he said in his X platform.
