Huge population has settled in Murang’a as the 13th edition of Water Companies Sports Organization (WASCO) starts attracting more than 10,000 people.
The annual sporting event was flagged off by Water Cabinet secretary Eng Eric Muriithi and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata
To mark the start of the event, commemoration trees were planted at Mbiri primary school by the participants to help combat climate change.
Eng Muriithi said sports have a unique power to bring people together, transcending differences and fostering a spirit of national unity.
“Games provide an opportunity to unwind, recharge and to bond with colleagues a recognition that a healthy, motivated and engaged workforce is key to delivering quality services that we all depend on,” said Muriithi.
“The Ministry of water is keen towards improving accessibility of this critical service to all citizens as enshrined in the constitution,” he said adding that climate change has continued affecting the water utilities, thus impacting negatively.
Governor Kang’ata said the sporting arena converges persons entrusted towards ensuring the people have access to clean and safe water.
“ The participants should engage in friendly competition as they move around Murang’a and enjoy hospitality, experience rich cultural heritage and natural beauty,” said the governor.
Managing Director Murang’a Water (Muwasco) Eng. Daniel Ng’ang’a said the water service providers support the organizers of sporting events.
“It will be prudent for the water companies to support their teams as WASCO leadership should focus on the establishment of sport teams beyond our sector both at national and international levels.” said Eng Ng’ang’a.
