Political temperatures are escalating with allies of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro defending him from claims of being used by President William Ruto to destabilise the mountain politically.
The supporters in Murang’a said the growing attempts to portray Kiharu MP and the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) as a government “project” or a “mole” will fail.
The supporters, led by Njuguna Mubea, have been angered by them, saying they will resist all attempts to soil the image of their Party Leader.
They argue that political competition should be based on ideas, performance and the confidence of voters—not accusations.
They pointed out that some of those now accusing him of being a government mole were themselves elected on the UDA ticket and were once deeply associated with the government.
“ If they can move into opposition politics, they ask, why should Nyoro be denied the same democratic right,” said Mubea.
Kuria Kamanja said that, unlike parties that have identified preferred candidates for various positions, PPK advocates for free and fair elections.
“ We are aware some have settled on preferred candidates for MCA, MP, Woman Representative, Senator or Governor. PPK calls for people to make their decision through the party’s nomination process,” said Kamanja.
The MP, in his public engagements, said he was in support of the united opposition agenda to field a single presidential candidate to defeat Ruto at the ballot.
