The elevation of the Nanyuki Police FC to the Central Regional League has excited the fans in Laikipia County, prompting them to raise money to facilitate travel and logistics during the season’s matches.

The football fans gathered on Saturday to celebrate the elevation of their homegrown team to the regional league, with the Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja donating Sh 200,000 with a pledge to continue supporting the Nanyuki Police FC further to meet the players’ aspirations.

Kanja, through Laikipia Police County Commander Peter Nduriri, appreciated Nanyuki Police FC for the achievements within a year, and the upgrade to the regional league.

“The IG has pledged to help the team grow,  as it has continued to lift the image of the National Police Service high in sporting activities and created a platform for police interaction with communities,” said Nduriri, who was accompanied by Laikipia East Police Commander Mr Daniel Kitavi.

Under the patronage of Nanyuki OCS Michael Waweru, the team started in the Laikipia FKF league with lack of uniforms and transport logistics before the sponsors came on board.

The players, led by their team’s Captain Thomas Odhiambo and Coach  Titus Mureithi, gave an assurance that they will remain disciplined with determination to achieve the best.

“ We are grateful for the support from the sponsors who have nurtured the team and promise Nanyuki Police FC is on the way to the National league,” said Odhiambo.

Representative of the Nanyuki business community, Mr Christopher Mithamo said the team will continue receiving support from the fans, as the players have demonstrated unity and determination.

“We are supposed to be part of the team that has made Nanyuki town great in the sporting arena,” said Mithamo.
