Campaigns for KTDA Holding top positions gains momentum, as IEBC stop election in zone three following riots

The Mountain Journal

Campaigns for KTDA Holding leadership have gained momentum in the counties, with candidates holding strategic meetings ahead of today’s board members elections.

The 12 positions in East and West of Rift Valley have attracted 26 directors with majority holding strategic meetings to pick their own for the lucrative board members positions.

Already, in the East of Rift with 35 factories, KTDA Chairman Enos Njeru  and James Githinji from Ngere tea factory were re-elected unopposed.Njeru also seeking to retain the KTDA Chairmanship said the directors have the freedom to elect their choice  for the board member position to represent them at the national level.

“The process is democratic as the directors head to elect members to address tea farmers’ interest,” said Njeru who represents Rukuriri tea factory in Embu.

In Kirinyaga, following a high court order that halted Special General meetings in four factories, IEBC has only cleared  Maingi Muriithi from Kangaita factory to run after it was not affected.

The incumbent John Mithamo Wasusan from Ndima tea factory  is also interested but the order restrained the factory from holding a meeting to confirm  the elected directors.

In Kiambu County Zone one, the contest is between the incumbent David Ichocho and Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe and two others.

In Murang’a Zone three, representing Githambo, Kanyenyaini, Kiru and Gatunguru, board member election was called off.

The cancellation by IEBC followed chaos that were witnessed at Kiru tea factory on Thursday as the growers from two electoral areas protested failure by previous meeting to confirm directors elect Martin Ngatia and Eston Gakungu.

In the zone the contest has been between Kiru tea factory chairman Chege Kirundi and Joseph Karanu also the chairman at Githambo tea factory

In Nyeri county,  those contesting for the position are incumbent Michael Kamau Ngatia, John Kanyua Wangari, David Ndung’u Wanjohi and Teobald Mukundi Wambugu.
