The rift between the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Mathira MP Erick Wamumbi has continued to widen, with claims of a plot to exit from the government.
Wamumbi said his differences with Rigathi are based on opinions with no personal interest based on a move to walk out from the government to prepare for another in 2027.
In a television talk show, Wamumbi said the political battle with the DP should not be perceived to have been caused by the re-opening of liquor outlets in Mathira but started elsewhere.
“ The DP had hinted to me that he would leave the government in preparation for another one in 2027 but based on my ideologies opted to ignore his opinion. I differed with him based on my commitment to serve my people under President William Ruto’s to enable completion of the stalled projects in Mathira,” said the MP.
The MP said he has been friends with the Deputy President, who have mentored him since 2016, and differ on opinion.
Gachugua,Wamumbi disclosed that he took him to the then deputy president Ruto at the height of the campaign and told him he was a true leader and who will not betray the mountain..
Last year, the Finance Bill 2023, he hinted had issues and Mathira people rejected it, before being approached by the deputy president who directed me to always listen to the voice of President Ruto.
“Gachagua came to Hiriga village for a burial that I also attended where he urged me to support the government and the finance bill 2023 and I obliged,” said the MP.
