The Mountain JournalFive days after President William Ruto issued an order concerning the management of Maragua Bulk Water Project, the ground is set for the transfer of management.The management of Murang’a Water (Muwasco) and Murang’a South Water (Muswasco) converged at Gakoigo treatment plant at the start of the handing-over process. On Thursday last week, Ruto ordered the Sh1 billion Maragua Bulk Water Project be handed to Muwasco, as it confirmed notifying the Water Service Regulatory Board (Wasreb) of the Presidential directive on operating in Maragua.
Murang’a County Water CEC Mary Magochi confirmed the handing over process has started calling on the parties to ensure there will be no hitches. The dam located along Irati River has a capacity of 800,000 cubic metres of water designed for domestic and irrigation purposes.Ruto ordered Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru to start the handing-over process without further delay to enable Muwasco to distribute water to the Maragua people.“The president’s directive the process to transfer the management of the dam to the new service provider start immediately. Am hopeful that the process will be done smoothly, to allow Muwasco to distribute water to residents,” she said.
Muswasco MD Eng Mary Nyagah said the handing over process will be done to ensure Muwasco gets down into the service delivery plan following the Presidential directive.“We have managed to the dam for two years and we are in the handing over process to ensure everything is done as required,” said Nyaga.Muwasco MD Eng Daniel Ng’ang’a said they will embark on increasing water coverage in the Maragua sub-county.
“Once Muwasco gets authority from Wasreb, we will embark on supplying the whole of Maragua with water,” said Ng’ang’a.www.themountainjournal.co.ke
