The government has gazetted a parcel of land in Murang’a for use in the activities related to the Export Promotion Zone (EPZ), as members of the Kandara Residents Association battle seeking ceding of their 6,600 acres.
Investment, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano in a gazette notice dated October 26, declared land registered 12157/8 measuring 500.3 acres of land to be an EPZ.
The publishing of the gazette notice sparked political squabbles within the Kandara residents’ association where the members have been battling to have victims of historical injustices allocated 6,600 acres.
President William Ruto in August during his tour of Mt Kenya region ordered Murang’a County leadership under Governor Irungu Kang’ata to fast track processing of allocating land for setting up EPZ.
The matter surrounding the historical injustice sparked debates as the association led by Kibiru PMG Junior and Geoffery Kairu have been pushing for the implementation of the directive by the National Lands Commission (NLC) and Parliamentary Lands Committee to resolve the matter.
Two weeks ago, Kibiru was charged before a Kenol court of stealing building tools worth Sh 149,648 property of John Ng’ang’a Kimiti .after he allegedly stormed the Makeji area where a level five hospital was being constructed on 1,400 acres of land that Delmonte Kenya Limited ceded to the Murang’a County Government.
