The Kenyan coffee market fetched Sh 465,312,817 during the weekly auction after the sale of 12,102 bags. The consignment weighing 745,242 kilogrammes was purchased by 17 local and international buyers.
In the market Alliance Berries and NKPCU delivered the most coffee for the auction.
Nduluma Coffee Factory in Tharaka Nithi and Githembe factory based in Kiambu affiliated to NKPCU and Alliance Berries Limited respectively achieved the highest price of Sh46,582 and Sh 43,622.52 per bag of grade AA.
Last week, the market generated Sh650.7 million from the 19 buyers upon purchase of 12,574 bags of the commodity.
In the weekly sale, Nairobi Coffee Exchange NCE Chief Executive Officer Ms Lisper Ndung’u said eight brokers participated where NKPCU delivered 2,811 bags that were bought for Sh104,297,108.804.
The Alliance Berries Limited, she added from the sale raised 90,688,807 from the sale of 2,318 bags of coffee.
“ In the buyers category, Ibero Kenya bought 3,775 bags for Sh139,968,787.568 for the purchase of 3,775 bags, followed by Louis Dreyfus 2,625 bags, C.Dorman 2,146 bags.
Others were Taylor Winch 1,512 bags, Kenyacoff 828 bags, Sasini 446 bags among others,’ said the CEO.
Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro and a member of Cotepa said the market in the year has been vibrant calling on growers to increase production of the commodity.
“ In the coffee year 2023/2024 that is coming to an end it is evident that the buyers are interested in the quality grades and thus need for the stakeholders to put more efforts in meeting the expectations,” said Munyoro.
