Women parliamentarians have expressed their bitterness over the suspension of a Murang’a MCA over raising concerns over the deteriorating standard of health.
Murang’a MP Betty Maina and her Maragua counterpart Mary Wamaua termed the four months’ suspension of Kanyenya ini MCA Grace Nduta misplaced.
Speaking at Kanyenya ini market, Kangema sub county they alleged that the suspension from the assembly and removal from the three committees was politically instigated.
The two said they have consulted the UDA party leadership over the gross misconduct of the leadership of the assembly for investigating the conservation of the female leader outside the assembly.
Maina said at the national assembly the leaders are free to air their concerns outside the precincts of the assembly and some fist fights occur and are resolved amicably.
She stated there were no drugs in Murang’a health facilities which are in the public domain as the Murang’a MCAs behaved primitively.
The MCA was suspended following a debate that MCAs unanimously endorsed a report by Power and Privileges Committee that recommended for action citing she breached her privileges that saw her stripped membership in the Speaker’s panel, House Business and Rules and Committee on Selection.
“Suspending the MCAs is denying Kanyenya ini people a voice while their dispensary lacks syringes and gloves forcing patients to incur costs of buying the essentials from the local chemists,” said Maina.
Wamaua said the assembly went against the procedure as the leaders are supposed to engage the public in various forums.
“Issue pertaining to standards of health has been a thorn in the flesh as in Maragua Level Four hospital there are reports of snakes and rats hibernating in the compounds putting lives of patients at risk,” said Maragua MP.
She challenged Governor Irungu Kang’ata to put his house into order to help the MCAs understand their oversight role.
Wamaua says the Powers and Privileges committee chaired by Speaker Johnson Mukuha went over bound as its mandate relies within the precincts of the county assembly, and not to monitor social media platforms.
Kibe, supporting the powers and privileges committee report, said Nduta was offered an opportunity to tender her apology but insisted she will be summoned severally.
“ Instead of tendering an apology she stated she would be a regular customer. The MCAs are identified as a local failure by the public in the villages,” said Kibe.
In support of the report, he listed down the projects prioritized in each of the 35 wards, as a result of the input by the MCAs accused of lacking priorities.
