Muranga Governor Kang’ata waives Charges for Church Children

Murang’a Governor Dr Irungu Kang’ata has waived camping charges for children from the Seventh-day

Adventist (SDA) church who have been camping out at Gakoigo show ground in Maragua Constituency

since Sunday.

Through the Maragua Sub County Coordinator, Lemmy Kabaka, Dr Kang’ata waived nearly Sh 30,000 and commended the SDA Church in Central Kenya for by passing the other counties in the region and choosing Murang’a to host its week-long event.

“Your programs for the teens are great and I can assure you that I am fully behind all your projects,” said Kang’ata during the opening ceremony on Tuesday. The waiver extended to all SDA groups which will choose to hold their activities at the show ground.

More than 800 children aged 10-15 years, identified as Pathfinders in the SDA church converged in Murang’a for their Camporee, the biggest event of interaction between Pathfinder clubs around the world. At least 24 Pathfinder clubs from Nairobi attended the event.

The Pathfinder club features a six-level curriculum along with nearly 350 specialized skill development topics covering spiritual development, arts and crafts, recreation, health and vocational training among others.

While welcoming the waiver, the president of the SDA church in Central Kenya Pastor Paul Mwangi thanked Dr Kang’ata and wished him well in his gubernatorial responsibilities.

“His Excellency the governor has said that as long as we are coming here we won’t have to pay anything.

That’s a great honor which we don’t take for granted,” said  Pastor Mwangi as he handed the spiritual books to Kabaka.

The organizer of the Pathfinder camporee Elisha Ouko also lauded the governor and promised to hold future camporees in Murang’a.

“The waiver is an incentive for us but our greatest motivation for returning here is to impact the local community especially the teens,” said Ouko who is also the director of all Pathfinder clubs in central Nairobi.
